"Firstly I would like to take the opportunity to thank the committee of the NNC for the kind invitation to judge their 2026 Open Show, having had several years away from the show ring it was truly an honour to be considered. Secondly I must thank the exhibitors not only for the fabulous entry but for the very relaxed and friendly atmosphere they created both around and in the ring, including acceptance of their awards.

My overall findings on the day whilst mostly positive did leave me with a few concerns within our breed, the lack of size and general substance being one. Narrow fronts lacking chest was a recurring theme which for me questions their ability to ‘work’ effectively. And finally presentation in a limited number of entrants was questionable, with matting under chest and around the rear quarters. In our breed construction and being ‘fit for purpose’ will always take precedence but having your exhibit groomed and presented properly can make the difference when placings are awarded.

On a positive note my main winners more than pleased me on the day and looking back on the photograph inclusive of all my main winners together I was more than happy. A final line up consisting of mostly browns was a very pleasing surprise so congratulations to all of you.

A necessary comment for me would be the exceptional presentation of the baby puppies today, owners you should take a bow."
