"I was looking for a Newfoudland showing correct type with balance and free easy, efficient movement indicating that they could do a full days work if asked. I like to see a strong topline, good shoulder angulation and powerful rears. I am not a fault judge and did forgive some faults which breeders need to watch, particularly mouths, weak underjaws, short tails, heavy and also weak heads, eyes both shape and rims with a few bitches showing haw or entropian.

A couple of very well constructed and moving bitches were placed down the line due to lack of size. Again, I will forgive smaller bitches if they are balanced and have good width throughout keeping type but a couple of otherwise very promising but excessively small bitches lost out. Similarly a number of girls were oversize and some extremely overweight, these were also penalised. Excessive height at withers usually displayed straighter angles in front and rear assemblies and narrower bodies, both incorrect. I am happy to say that I did not find any short upper arms, a fault which was very common in the breed ten years ago.

Almost all girls were bathed and well groomed and I thoroughly enjoyed handling them all."
