"An interesting entry to judge, not numerically the best I’ve had in the UK but there were some good examples of the breed in contention, particularly in the bitches. The breed seems to be polarising somewhat, on the one hand you still have the 'black St. Bernard' heads and at the other end of the spectrum rather streamlined, necky, over-angulated slab-sided dogs that fly round the ring but are not really typical Newfoundlands.

Mouths are very much improved but I saw too many loose eyes. The really beautiful Newfoundland head with correct stop, not groomed liked Mohicans, neat eyes, correct sized ears and the clean blunt muzzle without yards of lip is a joy to behold but not seen as often as in the past. All winners were black."
