"I have been judging Newfoundlands under the FCI rules for many years, but this was the first time giving CCs in the UK, which of course was rather special. I was looking for a large, well balanced dog which was deep bodied, heavily boned, muscular and strong with good spring of ribs. A Newfoundland needs to have dignity and a proud head carriage and temperament is of primary importance. We want a broad head which is relatively large with a rather square and short muzzle and in the end we want the dog finished of with an impressive water resistant coat. With this in mind I was ready for my task."
