"I was delighted to accept this invitation to judge for the first time with Challenge Certificates at this lovely showground. I had a huge level ring and two great stewards thanks to Andy Hamilton and his grandson Andrew for keeping the ring running smoothly. I would like to make a couple of well meaning observations of the entry today that I feel are becoming more problematic throughout the breed. Firstly lack of size, bone and substance - these are essential in a large draught dog, so many today were lacking in these attributes especially the males. Secondly, short foreleg length - many lovely quality dogs were unbalanced by this fault which is inevitably accompanied by a longer than ideal back. Temperament I am delighted to say was excellent throughout the entry." Mrs. Loraine Ratter |
