Judge's Comments

"This breed is always able to present a number of high class representatives. It must be noted that there is an eye problem in the breed which I made a point of mentioning last time I judged. There were several that clearly displayed signs of entropian and I withheld four cards where this was evident and made the handlers aware of the reasons for my decision.

With temperatures hitting the nineties, a number of dogs were feeling the heat which could have affected their placings. My BOB, was an immense dog of great quality, his eyes an object lesson in correctness, dark with tight rims and showing no haw, his forehand faultless with great bone, strong crested neck, flowing into the best laid shoulders, moving well and collected, soundly with great power, his tail correctly carried. Already with ten big green cards to his credit, this two year old in his present form will present formidable competition. Was placed third in the strong working group under Albert Wight.

BCC from Limit, high class, grand head, eye and mouth, strong sound bitch of great quality, firm sound mover with good tail carriage. I hear her second CC here, well deserved.

RCCs to litter brother and sisters Landseer, the dog I hear now a Ch. and I gave him a RCC as a puppy. These two, also well built are impressive animals and quite striking as they move. Several promising puppies, which augurs well for the breed.

I must make special mention of my second in Open. A great dog I have judged on a couple of occasions and 18 months ago had the pleasure of making him BIS at The National. He too personifies all that is best in the Newfoundland, but, no doubt feeling the heat, was not in quite the form as when I judged him last.

Newfoundlands seem to be going through a good phase and one is now always able to find good representatives around the world."
